1. Texas

Every single season, Texas projects to finish as a top team in the Big 12. And yet, they usually disappoint fans. But on paper this year, they have one of the best teams in the school’s recent history.

The offense is highlighted by an overload of 5-star recruits and quarterback Quinn Ewers. There are very few teams in the country that rival their level of talent. Defensively, they return star linebacker Jaylan Ford and some other key pieces. In total, 15 of 22 starters return to Texas.

Although it seems like the obvious pick to place UT here, the only logical argument you could make against placing them at the No. 1 spot would be the disappointing finishes in the past. Consistency will be key for the Longhorns, and if they play every game like they did when they beat Kansas 55-14 in 2022, they will likely be the Big 12 champs before departing for the SEC a year later.
