6. TCU

TCU loses, quite literally, all of its offensive talent from last year’s team that made it to the national championship game. Chandler Morris, who has thrown for 901 career yards, is expected to take over for Heisman Trophy runner-up Max Duggan. Oklahoma State transfer John Paul Richardson (49 receptions for 503 yards in 2022) is expected to begin the year as the top receiver on the depth chart, replacing first-round draft pick Quentin Johnston. So… yeah. It won’t come easy for the Horned Frogs.

As we learned last season, though, Sonny Dykes can take his team to unprecedented heights. Jamoi Hodge and Johnny Hodges return on the defensive end, an area that TCU struggled in last season — despite the final stats being inflated from the 65-point onslaught by Georgia.

This team could very well finish in a top three or four spot in the conference. After all, the preseason AP Poll ranked them as the third-best Big 12 school heading into the year. However, there are too many questions surrounding the roster for me to buy into them yet. Last year was very much a miracle season, and it’s difficult to assume they’ll repeat that. Combine it with the fact that they’ll have to play Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech on the road, and that leads me to believe TCU is likely facing a 5-4 or 6-3 conference finish.
