Game 5 at Texas Longhorns

Texas is going to be the toughest test of the 2023 season, and I don’t think there is any doubt about it. Texas throttled the Jayhawks last season 55-14 in the most lopsided matchup of the year for Kansas. Texas is one of the most storied football programs in the country, but haven’t had near the success in the last decade plus. I think that changes this year, although I know everyone will be saying ‘People say that every year about Texas, and it doesn’t happen’.

Texas went 8-5 (6-3) last year and was third in the Big 12, including a loss to Washington in the Valero Alamo Bowl. The Longhorns brought in their usual top 10 recruiting class which is headlined by Arch Manning — nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning. They also bring back Quinn Ewers, who was very highly rated and most likely would have beaten Alabama had he not gotten injured in that game. Stud WR Xavier Worthy will return for his junior season alongside preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year LB Jaylan Ford on the defensive side of the ball.

It will be interesting to see if Steve Sarkisian can truly can the next step in his third year with the Longhorns, but he will have all the tools necessary to win the Big 12 this year and carry momentum into the SEC.

Kansas will be on the road for the first time in Big 12 play, and it will be a lot to ask of Leipold’s group to go into Austin and win. The talent level for Texas is always a lot greater than Kansas football teams, and I think a now competent coaching staff for Texas will allow it to prevail in this one.

My Prediction:

Texas wins 48-21 over Kansas

Kansas Football Record: 4-1
