Cornerbacks

Returning Players:

Cobee Bryant
Mello Dotson
Kalon Gervin
Brian Dilworth
Kwinton Lassiter

Newcomers:

Damarius McGhee (LSU)
Jaleel Croft (High School)
Jacoby Davis (High School)

While there are some impressive names on this list, KU’s cornerbacks were burnt pretty often last season. Still, it’s encouraging to see a top-100 player in the nation, a returning starter from last year, and a transfer from LSU leading the depth chart.

There are not many questions regarding who will start at the three corner spots. Bryant and Dotson are three-down guys, and McGhee seems to have established himself as CB3 in fall camp. Even if someone else takes his spot, though, there is plenty of talent to go around.

The two freshmen, Jaleel Croft and Jacoby Davis, are the top players in the Jayhawks’ 2023 recruiting class. They’ve both been electric in the preseason, and Croft will likely carve out a part-time role as a safety/cornerback hybrid. Davis, on the other hand, is a grey shirt candidate due to all of the players in this position group.
