Billy Richmond dropped his list of final eight schools on Saturday, and he revealed that he is still considering Kansas basketball.

Good news continues to emerge on the recruiting trail for the Kansas Jayhawks. They were listed as one of eight schools on the final list of Billy Richmond, per Joe Tipton on X. The news came hours before the highly touted Flory Bidunga pledged to Bill Self and the Jayhawks.

According to 247 Sports, Richmond is rated as the No. 34 player and No. 6 shooting guard in the 2024 recruiting class. A 6-foot-5 guard from Camden, New Jersey, he plays at a lightning-quick pace and can get to the rack at ease. He possesses plenty of strength for a player his size and can play intense on-ball defense.

He will be choosing between Kansas, Memphis, Alabama, Louisville, LSU, Kentucky, Texas, and Miami (FL). It’s worth noting that his father played college ball at Memphis under John Calipari, so the Tigers and Wildcats could be overwhelming favorites in the pursuit of Richmond.

Richmond burst onto the scene as a junior and has competed in several offseason AAU tournaments. He posted a 30-point-per-game average in the recent Philly Live event across three contests. His junior year averages, stated by NJ.com, were 12 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.5 steals. Camden was the No. 15 team in the country on ESPN’s high school team rankings.

Amid the process, Richmond also scheduled an official visit with Kansas basketball from Oct. 6-8. He’ll also take trips to the campuses of LSU, Kentucky, Memphis, and Alabama, in that order.

The Jayhawks are also planning to host Jalil Bethea, Jared Harris, and Emmanuel Stephen on visits prior to signing day. Richmond’s close ties to Kentucky and Memphis suggest that him coming to Kansas is a long shot. But as evidenced by Bidunga’s surprise commitment the other day, Bill Self always has a few tricks in his back pocket for players he truly desires.

He explained why he was interested in Kansas to On3.com:

"“I was kind of a Kansas fan when I was young. I’ve been to a couple of games when I was younger because my uncle used to live out there. They’ve just been watching my games and staying in touch.”– Billy Richmond on Kansas basketball, per On3"
