5. Billy Thomas (1994-1998)
Kansas basketball career 3-point shooting stats: 269-691, 38.9%, 2.0 3PM
Although he started just two games prior to his senior year, Thomas sits at No. 3 on KU’s all-time 3-pointers made list as of today. And when Roy Williams provided him with an expanded opportunity, he gave him the green light on just about any shot.
In the 1997-98 season, he shot 262 threes and hit 105 of them, good for a 40.1% clip. Kansas has had so many good shooters that Thomas is the only player on the list to leave the university with a sub-40% long-range percentage. That goes to show how competitive this list is.
Sure, he was nothing more than a role player during most of his time with the Jayhawks. However, that should not diminish his accomplishments from beyond the arc. His eight 3-pointers made are tied for the most in a single game in KU history, and he held the single-season record for several years before it was broken in the 2000s.
