Much like the anticipation for the upcoming Kansas football season, the preseason accolades continue to build for star quarterback Jalon Daniels.
A month ago, Daniels was picked as the Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He was also named to the Preseason All-Big 12 First Team, along with three of his teammates.
Earlier this week, he was one of 35 college quarterbacks named to the 2023 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Preseason Watch List – an annual award given to the nation’s top college quarterback. Daniels is also on watch lists for the Maxwell Award and the Wuerffel Trophy.
Today, he added perhaps the biggest preseason honor to the list after being one of 45 players named to the Walter Camp Player of the Year watch list.
The Walter Camp Award is an annual award given to the best player in college football. It’s the nation’s fourth-oldest individual college football award and is voted on by 133 NCAA head coaches and sports information directors.
The winner of the award will be announced in December on ESPN’s College Football Awards Show.
There’s clearly a lot of expectations for Daniels heading into the season. He’ll be counted on heavily to lead this team and improve upon last year’s 6-7 record.
If the team can improve in the win column – combined with the ability Daniels showed last year and all the talent returning around him on offense – he will have a great chance to take home the awards he’s been nominated for at season’s end.
The Jayhawks kick off the 2023 season in just three short weeks on Friday, Sept. 1, against Missouri State at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
