Khalil Herbert — Chicago Bears

Although Herbert transferred from Kansas to Virginia Tech during his senior year, we’ll consider him a member of the “Forever a Jayhawk” club.

Herbert is likely the best former Jayhawk in the NFL right now. He led the league in yards per carry by a running back, totaling 731 yards on just 129 carries. Now that David Montgomery is out of the picture — he signed with Chicago’s division rival, the Detroit Lions — Herbert is projected to start the year as the team’s No. 1 tailback.

With only D’Onta Foreman, Travis Homer, and Roschon Johnson in the picture, Herbert should capture the starting job fairly easily. He could eclipse 1,000 yards and enter the conversation as a top 10 running back with another strong showing in 2023.
