Big 12 football: Ranking each of the conference’s starting quarterbacks

No. 9: Kedon Slovis – BYU
The career of Kedon Slovis has been interesting, to say the least.
After taking over for JT Daniels at halftime of the season opener, a freshman Slovis never looked back. He went on to throw for 3,500 yards and 30 touchdowns that season, leading the Trojans to an 8-5 record. His next two seasons were full of what-ifs. As a sophomore, it was “What if there was a full season.” Slovis was on pace for nearly 4,000 passing yards and 34 touchdowns for a full 12-game season. As a junior, it was “What if he hadn’t gotten hurt.” In the seven games that he started and finished, Slovis averaged 288 passing yards per game and collected 10 touchdowns.
Last season at Pittsburgh, however, something wasn’t clicking. He averaged just 218 passing yards per game while throwing nine interceptions to 10 touchdowns. If Slovis finds some of the magic he had his first couple of years at USC, he could be a perfect replacement for Jaren Hall at BYU.
