No. 14: Hunter Dekkers’ backup – Iowa State
I may be doing a disservice by assuming that Hunter Dekkers will not be a Cyclone by the time the season rolls around, but I am comfortable making that claim. If he isn’t on the roster by week one, it could be a rough year for Iowa State.
Redshirt freshman Rocco Becht will likely be the incumbent starter, and he is one of the most inexperienced non-true freshmen in the country. Last year, he threw just 15 passes before being redshirted. What’s worse is, he completed just seven of them (47%).
Xavier Hutchinson was Dekkers’ safety net last year and is now in the NFL. With the next leading receiver having just over 600 yards last season, there isn’t a bona fide threat in the receiving game. Whether it’s Becht or someone else, it could very well be a long year in Ames.
