For the first time in more than a decade, there is palpable excitement surrounding the Kansas football program.

Heading into this upcoming season, the Jayhawks – now in year three under head coach Lance Leipold – return 17 starters from last year’s 6-7 bowl squad, including Preseason Offensive Big 12 Player of the Year Jalon Daniels at quarterback. He and three of his teammates (running back Devin Neal, center Mike Novitsky, and cornerback Cobee Bryant) were also Preseason First Team All-Big 12 selections.

Every assistant returns from last year’s team as well – something that hasn’t happened at Kansas in 20 years.

Between the continuity of the staff and roster, it’s no surprise why there is excitement heading into this upcoming season.

But as the anticipation builds for this year’s team, so too does the anticipation surrounding KU football’s long-awaited stadium renovation plans.

KU football on Twitter (or X as it’s now called) sent out a teaser video on Tuesday indicating that more details regarding the Gateway District project will be announced on Aug. 15.

The gateway project encompasses many new structures and designs for the university, including a much-needed renovated football stadium.

The video was pretty vague in terms of what the details will be, but based on recent news surrounding the project, it’s fair to assume that the announcement will likely include finalized stadium renderings and perhaps a more detailed timeline of the renovation process.

Construction has already begun this summer on the Anderson Family Football Complex, which houses the Kansas football coaching offices, locker room, and weight room. Those changes are expected to be finished any day now if they aren’t already.

Meanwhile, construction on the stadium is expected to begin following this upcoming season.

It will be interesting to see what information gets released in the coming weeks and how fans will respond to the news.

Regardless, it’s an exciting time to be a Kansas football fan as the program looks to make improvements both on and surrounding the field.
