Joe Krause was suspended indefinitely by the Kansas football team due to his involvement in a bomb threat sent to KU’s team facilities.

In one of the more bizarre scenarios you’ll ever come across, Kansas Jayhawks offensive lineman was arrested last week for sending a bomb threat to the campus. He has been accused of “unlawfully, feloniously, and with the intent to place another in fear, or to cause the evacuation, lockdown or disruption in regular, ongoing activities of any building, communicate a threat to commit violence.”

The Prairie Village native is facing a “severity level 5 person felony” and up to 11 years and 4 months in prison. It came to light after Kansas closed down its facilities at 3:00 p.m. CT on July 24, and Krause was booked shortly after.

Krause hasn’t seen the field since his freshman year when he appeared in games versus Iowa State and TCU. He came out of high school unranked on major recruiting websites.

Bryson Stricker reported on Twitter that an unconfirmed source told him it was a “joke gone wrong” situation. The University of Kansas issued an “all-clear notification” around 5 hours after the threat was called in.

His next court date will come tomorrow, Aug. 2. Even if he is acquitted of these charges, Krause’s days as a Kansas Jayhawk are likely numbered. It’s difficult to see a situation where the school would forgive a player for a situation of this nature — especially someone that’s provided very little production on the field.

Considering he was officially suspended today, Krause will not play for KU in the near future. Head coach Lance Leipold commented on the matter during day one of KU’s preseason camp:

"“He’s suspended right now from the program. That’s really all I know from our perspective.”– Kansas football head coach Lance Leipold"
