Kansas basketball: Remy Martin signs with professional team in Iceland
Former Kansas basketball standout Remy Martin extended his basketball career by signing with the top professional league in Iceland.
Two members of the Kansas Jayhawks were drafted in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft. However, several others went undrafted and continued their basketball careers overseas — one of them being Remy Martin.
The Arizona State transfer signed with Keflavík, a professional team based out of Iceland, according to a local website. They play at the highest level of Icelandic basketball, the Úrvalsdeild karla.
He was a candidate to make the Cleveland Charge’s final roster last year in the NBA G League but did not make the final cut. Soon after, Martin inked a deal with a team in Greece and served in a limited role. He’ll undergo another massive change of scenery this upcoming fall.

Martin came into the 2021-22 season voted as the Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year, but injuries and inconsistent play derailed a good portion of his time in Lawrence. However, he came alive in the NCAA Tournament, being named the Most Outstanding Player in the Midwest Region and averaging 14 points per game in the tourney.
During his four years at ASU, Martin scored 1,754 points and earned All-Pac-12 honors on three different occasions. He spent his final year of eligibility at the University of Kansas, and it paid off for him in the long run.
KU’s current team could see Martin in action in a few days when they embark on their offseason trip to Puerto Rico. Two of the scheduled games are against the Bahamian National Team, and he is listed on their roster. He posted confirmation on his Instagram story earlier this week. It’s possible that head coach Bill Self will be coaching against a player he once coached himself.
Kansas basketball would not have been able to win a national championship without the efforts of Remy Martin. Even if he didn’t spend much time at the university, he will forever be a Jayhawk.
