A Kansas football player was booked this Monday on charges of aggravated criminal threat, and the Jayhawks offensive lineman could serve jail time.

In a rather shocking development, someone sent in a bomb threat to the Kansas Jayhawks team facilities on July 24. Soon after, Joe Krause was arrested for a “severity level 5 person felony,” suggesting the incoming redshirt sophomore was connected to the situation.

The threat was sent in around 3:00 p.m. CT on Monday, and Krause was booked at 4:35 p.m. CT, according to Shreyas Laddha of The Kansas City Star. Everyone was evacuated until nighttime when the university issued an all-clear notification. Nobody was injured or at harm in the incident.

Krause has been with the program as a preferred walk-on since 2020. The Prairie Village native has not seen game action since his freshman year when he played against Iowa State and TCU. He is 6-foot-3 and 305 lbs.

A Kansas University representative acknowledged Krause’s involvement in a statement:

"“We are aware of a situation involving one of our student-athletes. We take the safety of our staff, student-athletes and coaches very seriously. We are gathering more information and will have no further comment at this time.”– Kansas football spokesperson"

Bryson Stricker initially reported the situation on Twitter. He later added that it was likely a “joke gone wrong situation.” If it was a joke, it certainly was a costly one, as Krause now faces a maximum of 136 months (11 years and 4 months) in prison.

Police reported to the scene immediately and got down to the details fairly quickly. His bond has been set at $10,000, and his next court date will come on Aug. 2. Rest assured that even if Krause is acquitted of these charges, he’s seen his final days with the Kansas football team.
