Keith Langford officially hung it up following Mass Street’s loss on Sunday afternoon. He will coach the Kansas basketball alumni team in The Basketball Tournament in 2024.

One of the most underrated Kansas Jayhawks players in the 21st century retired from professional basketball. 39-year-old Keith Langford’s appearance in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) was the final organized competition of his career.

Langford spent more than two decades on the hardwood. He was a standout with Kansas basketball, reaching two Final Fours and earning All-Big 12 honors as a junior and senior. His 1,812 points rank No. 8 on the all-time Jayhawks scoring list. Although he never made a name for himself in the NBA, he became one of the greatest offensive players in EuroLeague history. It marks the end of a fantastic career for the Texas native.

KU’s alumni team in TBT, Mass Street, fell to Heartfire in the Sweet 16. However, Langford was a bright spot despite his old age. He scored 15 and 13 points in the Round of 64 and 32, respectively.

After the conclusion of the game, Langford took to Twitter with an exciting announcement on top of his farewell. He revealed that in next year’s edition of TBT, he’ll serve as a coach for Mass Street. In what coaching capacity remains to be seen, but he’d be a strong candidate to serve as the head coach if Marcus Morris does not return.

He partook in a postgame interview with a local radio station. This is what he said:

"“I love the fact that I’m able to play with these guys and work with these guys. I’ve seen them over the years and just being able to share the space with them… This is fantastic.”– Keith Langford"

He didn’t finish off with a victory as a player, but Langford has plenty of accolades to be proud of. There’s no doubt that he is one of the best Jayhawks of our era. Now, we could see him pursue a job in the coaching field in addition to leading Mass Street in TBT 2024.

Next. Kansas basketball has played, but never beaten, these teams. dark
