Zach Clemence (UCSB)

Clemence transferred to UC Santa Barbara, but in what was a strange situation, he decided to return to Kansas basketball. This technically makes him a member of the transfer class this year despite him spending the past two years in Lawrence.

Fans already know what Clemence brings to the table, which unfortunately wasn’t what some may have hoped a couple of years ago when he was first recruited.

He has the potential to be a successful Big 12 player, but he hasn’t gotten it all figured out in order to do so yet. He needs to improve his 3-point ability along with learning how to develop a more conventional play style for someone of his height.

Clemence will be taking a redshirt year this season, barring any injuries that force the program to pull it. It’s nice to see a familiar face back with the program, but having a player who will likely never see the floor take up a spot is not the best-case scenario. Rather than having ten scholarship players and eradicating its self-imposed three-year scholarship reduction entirely, it will carry over for at least one more season.

Bill Self wouldn’t have brought him back if he didn’t believe in him, so with three years left before he graduates, he needs to figure it out sooner than later if he wants to see playing time a season from now.
