Former Jayhawk Mitch Lightfoot is the latest addition to the Kansas basketball alumni team in this year’s edition of The Basketball Tournament.

Mass Street is the alumni team that former Kansas Jayhawks players have put together to compete in The Basketball Tournament (TBT). They have already added notable names such as Thomas Robinson and Keith Langford, and they are now bringing Mitch Lightfoot aboard.

Lightfoot, who spent six years at Kansas and was beloved in the city of Lawrence, joined the KVL Kirchheim Knights to continue his basketball career last year. In 167 career games as a Jayhawk, Lightfoot averaged 3.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per contest. He was a vital piece on the bench for KU’s national championship-winning team in 2022.

Although he is just one year removed from playing college ball, Lightfoot is not the youngest player expected to take the floor for Mass Street. Even so, he is more youthful than other players on the roster like Keith Langford (39) and Mario Little (35).

During the offseason, Lightfoot has hosted several episodes of Rock Chalk Unplugged with former Kansas PWO Chris Teahan. Michigan transfer Hunter Dickinson appeared on the podcast this past week.

The Arizona native should be a terrific rim protector for the second unit. He specialized in blocking shots and making gritty hustle plays defensively during his time with Kansas basketball.

Mass Street is the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, which begins next week on July 19 at 8:00 p.m. CT. KU’s alumni team is scheduled to take on No. 8 seed “We Are D3,” a squad that consists of only former Division III collegiate players.

The game can be streamed on ESPN+. It is a two-week-long event that rewards the winning team’s sponsor $1,000,000.
