Former Kansas basketball stars Jalen Wilson and Marcus Garrett competed in a Jayhawk vs. Jayhawk competition last night.

Kansas Jayhawks can be found anywhere in the NBA or overseas leagues. KU has produced the fifth most players to ever play professionally and has one of the longest pedigrees of greatness in college basketball history.

Yesterday evening, two former Kansas basketball stars squared off in a Summer League contest. Jalen Wilson and Marcus Garrett, who played with each other in 2020-21, competed against each other for the first time.

Wilson was drafted 51st overall in this year’s draft by the Brooklyn Nets, recently inking a two-way deal with the organization. Meanwhile, Garrett went undrafted two years ago and hasn’t played an NBA game since Dec. 28, 2021.

Brooklyn beat the Knicks 98-80, with Wilson posting 18 points en route to the victory. He shot 5-for-10 from the field and 3-for-4 from 3-point range, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds in 27 minutes played.

Garrett came off the bench but surpassed the minutes of starting guard Trevor Keels. The Dallas, Texas native had a rough shooting night — he shot 1-for-7 in total — but did all the little things on the court. His seven rebounds led the team and assisted on five buckets. He also recorded a block.

The former teammates were both standouts for Kansas basketball. Wilson is coming off a season in which he earned Consensus First Team All-American honors. He also won Big 12 Player of the Year, leading the conference in points and rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Garrett was one of the best defensive players in the Bill Self era and made an All-Big 12 team twice across his four-year KU career.

It won’t be the last time a pair of Kansas basketball players come across in a Summer League game this year. Gradey Dick and the Toronto Raptors are scheduled to play the Nets on July 13, so Jayhawks fans should mark their calendar for what should be a fun yet intense meeting.
