Kevin McCullar — Shoot more than 35% from 3-point range

In his first season as a Jayhawk, McCullar was relied on as the third scoring option. At the end of the day, that is not what he was meant to do. Now that he has other scorers around him, McCullar can focus less on offense and more on serving as the team’s leader.

We know what McCullar is capable of after watching a season of him in Lawrence. He’s KU’s glue guy who makes all the scrappy plays and guards the opposing team’s best player. The only iffy area of his game is his offense — specifically, his jump shot.

On 2.9 attempts per game last year, McCullar shot 29.6% from 3-point range, including a 20-game span to end the season where he shot 23.4%. So why do we think he can increase that number? Well, when the defense tries to double-team Dickinson in the post, guys will be left open — and teams will often leave McCullar unguarded.

Not to knock Dajuan Harris, but he shot above 40% from deep in 2022-23. He doesn’t exactly have the most fluent shooting motion. Reaching the 35% plateau is not out of the question. If he wants to make it to the next level, he will have to improve his jumper tremendously.
