No.1: Charlie Weis (2012-2014)

Kansas football coaching record: 6-22 (.214)

The Charlie Weis era was an absolute nightmare. From his unpredictable comments with the media to his abnormal recruiting tactics, the former Notre Dame head coach single-handedly ruined Kansas football for years to come.

You can look at his record at Kansas and think, “he did just as poorly as other KU coaches.” But how he assembled the roster and conducted himself was the real problem. Weis talked down on his team and shifted the blame to everyone except himself. What kind of coach calls his group of players a “pile of crap?” He should have been dismissed long before his third season began.

There’s not a single person who could watch one of Weis’ post-game interviews and say to themselves, “this guy really knows what he’s talking about.” I’m no football aficionado, but he just seemed clueless at all times. All of the speeches talking about how the team was getting closer and closer to where they wanted to be amounted to nothing.

Another explanation for Weis topping out this list was how he tried to bring on every possible JUCO player that he could. Rather than primarily going through high school recruits, he decided that bringing in players with more experience — albeit with only two years of eligibility remaining — was the greatest idea known to man.

By the time he was fired, Kansas hardly had any remaining scholarship players, and the program was put into an awful spot. It was one of the many reasons for the Jayhawks’ downfall. It’s no surprise that his JUCO dream team didn’t pan out, and his awful tenure with Kansas makes him the worst coaching hire of all-time.
