Former Kansas basketball star Gradey Dick is adjusting well to his new home, recently attending a Toronto Blue Jays game with a familiar face.

Gradey Dick has been making headlines across sports media this past week, even for reasons unrelated to him being selected in the lottery of the 2023 NBA Draft. The Sunflower State native and Kansas Jayhawks one-and-done is learning the ropes of his new native country — Canada.

It’s certainly a massive change in scenery to live in Toronto from Lawrence, but Dick is embracing the transition. He and former Kansas State Wildcat Markquis Nowell attended the Toronto Blue Jays 12-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, June 25.

Toronto’s Twitter page posted a video of Dick saying: “What’s going on guys, it’s Gradey here. We out in Toronto, taking in the city. Go Blue Jays!”

Although Kansas fans would prefer to see him sporting a powder blue Royals jersey, we can’t blame him for trying to adapt to his new home. At the end of the day, he grew up a KU fan and will always be a Jayhawk.

Additionally, it is pleasant to see former interconference competitors enjoying personal time together. Nowell was a star point guard for KU’s rivals, averaging 17.6 points and 8.3 assists while leading his team to an Elite Eight appearance. Despite standing at 5-foot-7, 155 pounds, he was one of the best players in the country.

Dick is already being viewed as a fan favorite in the NBA due to his eccentric personality and playful nature. Toronto-based rapper Drake even gave him a shoutout on his Instagram story.

It won’t be the last time we see Gradey making a name for himself in public. He figures to be one of the most popular names in the NBA by the time his rookie season concludes.
