The upcoming weeks will be very important for Kansas football, with commitment dates scheduled for primary targets Nick Marsh and Deshawn Warner.
The Kansas Jayhawks have a chance to build on what could be a historic recruiting class for the football program. Commitment dates are looming for some of the coaching staff’s most vital targets.
KU has secured 12 verbals in the 2024 class thus far, headlined by 4-star defensive backs Austin Alexander and Damani Maxson. It is ranked No. 43 in the country on 247 Sports, but less than a week ago, the Jayhawks sat at No. 32. Of course, all of this is subject to change, considering it is just June.
Nick Marsh should be and is the most essential goal for Kansas. The wide receiver from River Rouge is ranked the No. 54 player in the country on Rivals. He would be among the program’s most highly touted high schoolers to ever commit.
Marsh wrapped up his official visit with Kansas football two weeks ago and is now on campus at Michigan State. He will choose from MSU, Kansas, Penn State, Pitt, and Oregon. KU figures to be No. 2 or 3 in the race for him, but the Jayhawks are still holding out hope for the tall, physical wideout. His decision date is on July 7.
Another priority is Desert Edge defensive end Deshawn Warner. 247 Sports ranks him the No. 45 edge rusher in the Class of 2024, the No. 669 player in the country, and he will commit on July 1 between KU, Oregon State, Texas, and Washington. UT figures to lead the charge for him, but it is encouraging to see that Warner’s cousin (Aundre Gibson) and fellow high school teammate (Jonathan Kamara) are both committed to Kansas.
Michael Swain put in a crystal ball for Warner to attend Kansas, albeit with a confidence level of 2. That doesn’t mean much, but it is still something to keep an eye on. He is finishing up his official visit in Lawrence right now.
Willie Goodacre, Carter Lavrusky, Temerrick Johnson, and Tyler Simmons also visited this weekend. Goodacre, an offensive tackle who is the No. 1,205 ranked player in his class, will choose between Kansas and Syracuse. Meanwhile, Lavrusky is trending toward the Jayhawks fairly quickly and could commit within the next few days.
Recruiting talks should die down a bit following the next few weeks, but Kansas football would immediately brighten the outlook of its future if it can reel in Marsh, Warner, and potentially others in July.
