4. Elmarko Jackson will make a serious push to start at the 2 spot

The Jayhawks probably have four set-in-stone starters right now — Harris, McCullar, KJ, and Dickinson. The question is who will start at the 2 spot, and it’ll come down to Timberlake, Morris, and Elmarko. If Jackson consistently performs as he did in the scrimmage, he’d make an awfully compelling argument to steal that spot from the other two guards.

Sure, he doesn’t give you the level of outside shooting or experience of Timberlake. He also doesn’t have experience in the Big 12 as Morris does. But Elmarko Jackson is an exceptional athlete that could provide a huge spark to this squad.

Morris was not at the scrimmage for personal reasons, which likely had to do with his pending domestic violence charge. That leads us to another point of conversation — if Morris is suspended or forced to be away from the team for some time, Jackson would have less competition to obtain starting duties. He might run away with the job before Morris can even return if the coaching staff likes his game enough.
