Kansas basketball is bringing its sixth walk-on aboard, but Chris Carter could be the most impactful non-scholarship player for the Jayhawks.

The Elev8 Elite Basketball star and California State Northridge transfer Chris Carter has committed to the Kansas Jayhawks.

The decision was confirmed by one of his previous coaches, Cory Desanti, who also mentored incoming Kansas freshman Marcus Adams Jr.

Carter is a 6-foot-4 guard who redshirted at CSN last season. The Matadors are a D-I school, but since Carter was a redshirt, he has not received an opportunity to showcase his attributes at the collegiate level.

He is joining Kansas as a walk-on rather than a scholarship player, meaning the Jayhawks still have three roster spots available for the 2023-24 season.

While not much background information exists on Carter, based on his AAU level of play, he brings a side of athleticism to the table that many walk-ons don’t. It’s not normal for a walk-on to be able to dunk as Carter does in his highlight reel.

Bill Self is the best head coach in the sport, so if Carter wants to make a name for himself in the Big 12, it will take patience and trust in the process the Jayhawks have planned out for him.

It’s reasonable to believe that Carter will likely not play many minutes during this upcoming season unless an abundance of significant injuries occur.

Carter joins recent walk-on additions Justin Cross and Patrick Cassidy as non-scholarship players to join the roster this offseason. Meanwhile, Michael Jankovich, Dillon Wilhite, and Wilder Evers will return to the team.
