4. Lonnie Phelps, the Jayhawks’ tackle for loss and sack leader, departed to the NFL, so the addition of Brooks eased that loss a bit. He backed up defensive end Derick Hall at Auburn, the No. 37 overall pick in the draft, and has two years of SEC play under his belt. Although he played sparingly, Brooks has three years of eligibility remaining and holds tremendous potential off the edge. In 2022, he recorded one sack, six total tackles, and a fumble recovery. He’ll be used in special packages and third downs early on in his career at Kansas but has the potential to go to the pros and be one of the Jayhawks’ best edge rushers in a while if he pans out. If this list were to be made a year from now, there is a good chance he’d land at No. 1, but Brooks is still too inexperienced and must perform well at the college level before we jump to conclusions..
