Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self has assembled one of the nation’s best rosters during the offseason, but he is still yearning to add another player.

Four-star combo guard Chris Johnson decommitted from the Kansas Jayhawks, leaving KU with just ten scholarship players. The move allows Bill Self to pursue another player in the transfer portal or out of high school — and that is exactly what he is attempting to do.

The Hall of Fame head coach spoke to the media during a golf tournament with KU Athletic Director Travis Goff, former basketball star Wayne Simien, and others.

Self is still eager to bring in more talent, despite adding Arterio Morris, Nick Timberlake, and the No. 1 player in the transfer portal, Hunter Dickinson.

It is rather late to add someone from the transfer portal, but several top-notch players have yet to choose their schools. Grant Nelson of North Dakota State, Arthur Kaluma of Creighton, and Zyon Pullin of UC Riverside have all been connected to Kansas.

Here is what Self said about the outlook of KU’s roster:

"“Still recruiting… We’re still dabbling and looking into different situations. I thought we were probably going to be done unless something just fell in our lap. And now after we had someone say that they didn’t want to come now, now we’re in a situation where I think we can certainly give another scholarship out.”"

Self added to reporters, “There may be an opportunity coming up pretty soon that we could [add an impactful player],” according to KSNT. It is unbeknownst to the public who this might be, but the cryptic message from Coach Self should stir up plenty of speculation. Exciting things could be in store for Kansas basketball fans.
