For most NBA rookies, the goal in year one is to simply make the most of the opportunities you are given. Playing time may be scarce early on, but to prove your worth it’s important to stay ready when your name is called.
No player has embraced that mindset more than former Kansas basketball standout Christian Braun.
Despite the Denver Nuggets losing late to the Miami Heat in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Braun’s presence could be felt all over the floor in the first half.
In just 10 minutes of first-half action after subbing in for all-star big man Nikola Jokic early in the second quarter, Braun went 3-for-3 from the field and chipped in 6 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
His effort was the catalyst for the Nuggets’ stellar performance leading up to halftime, and his six points helped put the Nuggets up 57-51 at the break.
Braun would finish the game with 6 points, 3 steals, 3 assists, and one rebound in 15 minutes of action.
It was a vast improvement from Game 1 of the NBA Finals when Braun saw eight minutes on the floor and provided just one rebound and one assist.
But if he can continue to have the type of production he showed in Game 2 when his number was called, he could very well be a difference maker for this Nuggets team before the series is all said and done.
Braun should get his opportunity again – this time in front of a raucous Miami Heat crowd – when Game 3 of the NBA Finals kicks off in Miami at 7:30 p.m. CT Wednesday on ABC.
