Kansas basketball will host high school junior Chase McCarty on an official visit starting June 5.
The Kansas Jayhawks do not have a commitment in their 2024 recruiting class, but Chase McCarty could become their first. He is a 6-foot-5, 200-pound small forward from Westminster Christian Academy in Huntsville, Alabama. His official visit to Lawrence will begin next Monday, June 5.
McCarty is rated as the No. 71 player in the Class of 2024, according to 247 Sports. He has already completed official visits with Houston and Ole Miss. On top of Kansas, schools such as Gonzaga, Houston, and Alabama have offered him thus far.
Kansas has hosted two 2024 recruits — No. 1-ranked Tre Johnson and No. 3-ranked Flory Bidunga — on official visits so far in the cycle. Bidunga is a more realistic target for Bill Self’s coaching staff, as Johnson is expected to commit to Kentucky or Baylor, his father’s alma mater.
KU will presumably focus more on targeting forwards and big men for 2024 after bringing in three guards (Elmarko Jackson, Chris Johnson, and Jamari McDowell) in this year’s recruiting class.
McCarty is well built and should have a smooth transition to the next level, especially in the always physical Big 12 Conference. He is more of a true 3 with the ability to play the 4 at times and could be a prolific scorer at the next level.
On3.com‘s recruiting prediction machine gives Kansas the second-best odds to land McCarty at 30.5 percent, trailing only Ole Miss at 46.1 percent. Although plenty of time remains in his recruitment process, a decision could be made in the next few months.
