Former Kansas football DT is back in the transfer portal, should the Jayhawks pursue?
Kansas football can bolster its defensive line by adding defensive tackle Da’Jon Terry, a transfer from Tennessee who once played for the Jayhawks.
Da’Jon Terry is a familiar face to the Kansas Jayhawks, and he is now on the move again. Terry played two seasons with KU, recording 16 total tackles, 13 solos, and two sacks before transferring to Tennessee following Les Miles’ firing.
Lance Leipold has been working the portal for months now, and his main focus has been to improve on the defensive side of the ball. After losing Lonnie Phelps, Caleb Sampson, Eddie Wilson, and Sam Burt, the defensive line will need new guys to step up next season.
Terry had two productive years at Tennessee, collecting 16 total tackles, seven solos, and two sacks this past season in limited playing time. He could provide immediate production and has already shown his skill set in a great conference like the SEC.
Bringing Terry onboard would give the Jayhawks great depth on the defensive line, along with newcomers like Gage Keys, Devin Phillips, and Patrick Joyner. Kansas also hopes for breakout years from defensive line returnees Tommy Dunn and D.J. Withers.
Kansas is looking to build on an appearance in a bowl game for the first time since 2009, and getting more talented players on defense is what they need. The Jayhawks must improve the most on the defensive line, especially against stopping the run. They allowed 4.82 yards per rush and ranked 125th in rushing defense in FBS, according to the NCAA official site.
It was pretty obvious that Kansas didn’t have the necessary depth and talent on the defensive line to compete with the upper echelon of the Big 12 last season. Adding Terry would be a significant boost in getting better talent on par with the other great defenses in the conference. Terry would be a big-time get, potentially joining Auburn transfer Dylan Brooks as another defensive lineman from the SEC to join KU.
