G/F MJ Rice (NC State)

2022-23 season statistics: 23 GP, 2.2 PPG, 1.0 RPG, 0.2 APG, 40.8% FG

At the time that he entered the transfer portal, the move probably stung more than it does right now with the return of Kevin McCullar. Nonetheless, Rice’s one-and-done season under Bill Self went terribly wrong. A lingering back injury kept him out of practice for a considerable amount of time, thus making it challenging for him to get playing time. Defense was not his forte, and even when he did get minutes, Rice looked rather uninspiring on the floor. He will be able to see more consistent opportunities at NC State and figures to be in the conversation to crack their starting rotation.
