Desert Edge linebacker Jonathan Kamara commits to Kansas football

Kansas football added another promising player, linebacker Jonathan Kamara, to its 2024 recruiting class.

The 2024 Kansas Jayhawks high school class is shaping up to be one of the best in program history. Jonathan Kamara became Lance Leipold’s fifth commit and the second on defense.

Kamara, a junior at Desert Edge High School, is a do it all kind of player. Rivals lists him as a safety, while 247 Sports lists him as a linebacker/cornerback. His 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame allows him to be a versatile hard hitter. He can play in the box or as a deep safety.

He is not ranked on any major recruiting websites but could make a name for himself as a senior. Kamara received offers from Texas, Washington, and Arizona State but ultimately chose to play for the Jayhawks.

Kansas has prioritized Kamara for several months, specifically defensive backs coach Jordan Peterson. Kamara was primarily recruited by Peterson and Chris Simpson, the team’s linebacker coach.

Kamara is the second player from Arizona to join KU’s 2024 recruiting class, the other being 3-star cornerback Aundre Gibson. In fact, the two players are currently teammates at Desert Edge. Defensive end Deshawn Warner, a fellow Desert Edge student-athlete, included Kansas in his top 4 schools list last week.

He joins Red Martel, Isaiah Marshall, Aundre Gibson, and Carson Bruhn as soon-to-be Kansas freshmen one season from now. Not only is it an impressive acquisition for the Kansas football coaching staff, but it is even more encouraging to see so many recruits from Arizona being interested in KU.
