Jalen Wilson, who had one of the most decorated careers in recent history with Kansas basketball, threw out the first pitch in the Chicago White Sox game on Saturday.
Jalen Wilson was the first Kansas Jayhawks player since Wooden Award winner Frank Mason to average more than 20 points per game in a single season. He was the 2022-23 Big 12 Player of the Year, a Consensus All-American, and won a national championship a year ago.
During his three seasons at the university, Wilson scored 1,475 points, the 27th-highest number in KU history. His career in Lawrence did not end how he would have wanted it to, but he will forever be remembered as a legend in the Allen Fieldhouse rafters.
As he showcases himself for his professional career at the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, Illinois, Wilson decided to stop by at a nearby location in the city. He threw out the first pitch at Guaranteed Rate Field, the home of the Chicago White Sox.
Wilson did not particularly zip the ball to the catcher, but he made it across the plate — much more than Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce can say.
Although local Jayhawks fans may be at a crossroads considering he sported a White Sox jersey when they played the Kansas City Royals, we can forgive him for how much of an impact he left on the Kansas basketball program.
He grew up in Arlington, Texas, so it is uncertain what connection he has to the White Sox. However, he might have been their good luck charm, as Chicago took down the Royals 5-1.
