Kansas football seems to be on track to land one of the best high school recruits in the Lance Leipold era within the next few days.

There is a lot to be excited about if you are a fan of the Kansas Jayhawks. After starting off the 2022 football season 5-0 and nearly taking down Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl, the program is trending in the right direction under head coach Lance Leipold.

Even if KU did not have the most successful season for the standards of other football schools, they became a sensation in the world of college football. Recruits and transfers have taken note of this, and the football program is bringing in levels of talent that we have never seen.

Damani Maxson, the No. 414-ranked player in the Class of 2024 via 247 Sports, is a highly touted safety who might soon become a Jayhawk. Michael Swain recently put in a crystal ball for Maxson to attend Kansas with a confidence level of 7. Minutes after, the Houston native posted this cryptic tweet:

Considering Swain has been correct on 71 of his 72 crystal balls, it is safe to say that he is all but a lock to attend Kansas. Defensive coordinator Brian Borland and running backs coach Jonathan Wallace are the two staff members primarily involved in his recruitment.

Adding Maxson would be a big-time get for the program. He would be the highest-ranked Kansas commit in the Lance Leipold period, according to 247 Sports Composite rankings. After star safety Kenny Logan Jr. plays his final season at KU, Maxson has an opportunity to be his successor.

He came to the university on an unofficial visit before scheduling an official visit soon after. Maxson told JayhawkSlant that he “love[s] the college town feel” of Lawrence.

The 2024 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 51 in the nation but would likely jump up a few spots if they added Maxson. We should expect an announcement from him soon.
