Parker Braun, the older brother of Kansas basketball champion Christian, committed to the university today. He will provide Bill Self with big man depth.

The Kansas Jayhawks roster often consists of relatives of former players or members of the staff. Look no further than Tyler Self, whose father is a Hall of Fame head coach for KU. He walked on at the university for several years. There are several other examples of this.

Now, the latest addition to this list is Parker Braun. A transfer from Santa Clara, Parker is the older brother of KU alum Christian Braun, who plays for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA. Christian was a hometown hero for Kansas and won a championship with the university in 2022. He is loved by Jayhawk fans throughout the country.

In 2022-23, Parker averaged 7.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 blocks while starting all 33 games for the Broncos. They went 23-10 and finished third in the WCC.

At 6-foot-8, 217 pounds, he will provide the Jayhawks with some much-needed big-man depth. He is also considered to be a terrific passer for his size.

Parker spent two seasons with KU’s most hated rival, the Mizzou Tigers. Bill Self will undoubtedly crack jokes about his time in Columbia.

Even if he is not the most impactful transfer Kansas could acquire, he should serve in a Mitch Lightfoot role as the spark plug center off the bench. The second unit could play small ball with him for 8-10 minutes per game.

It is unknown whether he will be a walk-on or scholarship player, but if he does take a spot, Kansas will be down to two scholarships. They could spend those on a wing and a stretch big. Because of his widely known last name, Parker should be a fan favorite at KU.
