Kansas football’s already deep quarterback room just received a commitment from high-end walk-on Mikey Pauley.

On top of star quarterback Jalon Daniels, the Kansas Jayhawks have one of the nation’s best backups in Jason Bean. They just received a commitment from a walk-on that could be a vital part of their future.

Mikey Pauley, who recently transferred from Nebraska, committed to Kansas yesterday. He was a three-star recruit coming out of high school and the No. 89 quarterback in his class.

Pauley redshirted his freshman season with the Cornhuskers, so he will have four years of eligibility with the Jayhawks. He is a native of Overland Park and attended Blue Valley Northwest, the same school that Kansas legend Christian Braun went to.

Although nothing is set in stone, Pauley was supposed to play for Nebraska’s baseball team after his redshirt season. He might be a two-sport athlete at Kansas if the university lets him.

With an additional year of experience under his belt, he could make a name for himself at Kansas once Jalon Daniels graduates.

Despite being a walk-on, there is a lot to like about Pauley’s game. He is terrific at running the football and might be used in special teams or trick play formations with his speed and agility.

Pauley obviously won’t jump either Bean or Daniels on the depth chart, but he could rival Ben Easters for a spot as the team’s third-string quarterback. Ethan Vasko transferring left the team’s future depth very thin, so it is a nice addition considering quarterback is a position you never stop recruiting.
