With the addition of Hunter Dickinson, Kansas basketball ranked second in the updated transfer portal rankings.

Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks have made a splash this offseason. Even though they return just three players from last season’s roster, KU is a candidate to be the preseason No. 1 team.

The updated 247 Sports rankings list the top 30 teams who have made the biggest impacts through the transfer portal.

Three new players are set to touch down in Lawrence this year — Nick Timberlake, Arterio Morris, and Hunter Dickinson. All three will be exciting players with the Jayhawks.

Timberlake, a transfer from Towson University, is a 6-foot-4 combo guard who averaged 17.7 points as a senior. He is entering his sixth and final year of college basketball and figures to be a potential starter. His biggest asset is his outside shooting, as he shot 41.6 percent from deep last season.

Morris is a former five-star recruit that transferred out of Texas last month. Although he has had trouble with the law, there is no denying the talent he has. He is a high-flying, athletic guard who is an elite defensive presence. Morris and Timberlake will battle it out for minutes in the rotation.

Last but not least is Dickinson, who was widely regarded as the best player in the transfer portal before he committed to Kansas. The former All-American was a superstar at Michigan and will be a Wooden Award candidate under Bill Self, who loves to play with post-scoring bigs such as Dickinson.

Many people disapprove of the transfer portal, as it has made players less loyal and become the “free agency” of college sports. Whether you like it or not, though, Bill Self has taken advantage of it and bolstered KU’s roster for the next season.

In the rankings, fellow Big 12 competitor West Virginia ranked No. 1. They have brought in Kerr Kriisa, RaeQuan Battle, and former Kansas target Jesse Edwards. One or two players may de-commit if Bob Huggins receives repercussions for his inappropriate comments about Xavier University.
