Former Kansas basketball player Andrew Wiggins threw down a ferocious slam over a fellow blue-blood one-and-done in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals.
Kansas has produced some of the best talents the NBA has ever seen, so much so that this year’s MVP award was given to a former Kansas Jayhawks player. Four KU alum advanced to the conference semifinals in this year’s NBA Playoffs — Joel Embiid, Christian Braun, Quentin Grimes, and “Maple Jordan.”
Andrew Wiggins, who won his first championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2022, has been one of the few bright spots Steve Kerr’s squad has had during this series.
Wiggins has averaged 14.0 points and 6.3 rebounds in the first three games vs. the LA Lakers. He was the X-factor for the Warriors in their first-round matchup against the Sacramento Kings.
Although Golden State lost in embarrassing fashion, Wiggins’ emphatic dunk over Anthony Davis in the third quarter of last night’s matchup was one of the best moments of the playoffs. Relive it yourself:
He cut to the rim from the top of the key and put AD on a brutal poster. Even if his NBA career has not been what we expected it to be, Wiggins is still one of the most athletic wings in the league.
Davis is widely considered to be a top-five defensive player. He has led the league in blocks per game three times and made four All-Defensive Teams. His reputation of being an elite defender makes Wiggins’ dunk all the more remarkable.
There is some history between AD and the Jayhawks. He won the Wooden Award in 2012 and was the best player on a Kentucky team that defeated Kansas in the national title game.
This dunk is yet another addition to Wiggins’ extensive index of highlight reel plays.
