Nick Timberlake is doing his part to make Kansas basketball a national championship contender once again.
Even with the addition of Arterio Morris, the Kansas Jayhawks are not finished constructing next year’s roster. Towson transfer and recently signed Nick Timberlake knows that and wants to assist Bill Self in the recruiting process.
Would Coach Self be annoyed at Timberlake for posting this if he saw it? No doubt. Nonetheless, you must commend Timberlake for working himself into the recruiting trail so quickly.
He made a call for action for Mackenzie Mgbako and Hunter Dickinson to come to Kansas. We know that KU is heavily pursuing Dickinson, but mentioning Mgbako rather than Jaylon Tyson signifies that Timberlake might know something we do not.
Mgbako, a top-10 recruit from New Jersey, recently requested his release from his NLI at Duke. The assumed explanation for this was Kyle Filipowski announcing he would return to school for another year, clouding Mgbako’s status with the Blue Devils in 2023-24.
On Thursday, college basketball insider Adam Zagoria announced on Twitter that Mgbako would be visiting four schools — Kansas being one of them. He is currently visiting St. John’s and should be in Lawrence anytime within the next week.
While Timberlake’s tweet is harmless, it could mean that Kansas prefers Mgbako to Tyson. The Texas Tech transfer did receive multiple crystal balls on 247 Sports to Cal, so despite him being on an official visit to KU right now, the expectations of him committing to KU are getting thinner by the hour.
In other irrelevant Jayhawk social media news, Hunter Dickinson followed Jaylon Tyson on Instagram today. That contradicts everything that Timberlake published on Twitter. However, Kansas fans would certainly accept Tyson instead of Mgbako if it meant Dickinson would commit. Even if all of this is pure speculation, Timberlake is doing a terrific job helping the Jayhawks on and off the court.
