One of Kansas basketball’s top transfer targets, Arterio Morris, moved his commitment date up to this Friday at 5:00 PM.

Despite initially announcing that he would choose his new school in two weeks, Arterio Morris could become a Jayhawk even sooner. The No. 1 ranked point guard in the Class of 2022 will pick among the Kansas Jayhawks and DePaul Blue Demons, though he has not specified other schools in the mix. He finished his official visit with Kansas last week.

The 6’3″, 190-pound transfer from Texas averaged 4.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in his freshman season. At Kansas, he would presumably battle with Elmarko Jackson for time at the two-guard spot. Bill Self is not afraid to put out a dual point guard lineup next to Dajuan Harris, something that could be utilized even more if Hunter Dickinson commits.

While Morris is a terrific defensive presence and presented tons of upside at UT, concerns about him stem from the misdemeanor assault charge he received. An altercation with a woman led to his arrest last summer.

Another guard Kansas is interested in, Primo Spears, is on his official visit to the campus as of April 26th. If Morris does commit to Kansas on Friday, any hopes of Spears’ committing are immediately shot down. The Georgetown transfer averaged 16.0 points as a sophomore for the Hoyas last season

There will be some backlash for KU and its program if Morris commits. Some people believe everyone deserves a second chance, but others think there is no place for what he did in a prestigious basketball school like Kansas.

Texas Tech transfer Jaylon Tyson received a crystal ball pick to Cal yesterday. Pairing this with the news of Morris moving his commitment date up signifies that Tyson to KU talks are trending downwards. Two scholarships remain for the Jayhawks, spots that will be filled by Morris, Dickinson, McCullar, or others.
