Could this 16-point-per-game scorer from the Georgetown Hoyas be the next transfer to commit to Kansas basketball?

Primo Spears is set to embark on his visit with the Kansas Jayhawks today. His recruitment had been hush-hush in recent weeks, but he narrowed down his final list of schools to KU and the Florida State Seminoles.

The 6-foot-3-inch guard averaged 16.0 points as the leading scorer for Patrick Ewing’s underachieving squad. Spears must work on his inefficiencies, as he shot just 40.8 percent from the floor on 14.8 field goal attempts per game. He also is not the best three-point shooter — Spears shot 30.0 percent from deep in both seasons of college ball.

After transferring from Duquesne following his freshman season, Spears was immediately eligible to play at Georgetown. That might not be the case if he comes to Kansas because he would require a waiver to play this upcoming season. However, with the tricky coaching situation that the Hoyas had, the NCAA might grant him a medical hardship waiver.

Other guards that Kansas has been linked to include Arterio Morris, the former five-star recruit who transferred from Texas. While Morris has tons of potential, Spears has already proved he can score and distribute the ball at an elite level. On the other hand, Morris will be eligible next year, and Spears may not be. Both players offer plenty of upside to the Jayhawks.

Florida State is the only competition that Kansas has for Spears. Junior guard Caleb Mills and forward Matthew Cleveland recently transferred from the program, so he can be more of the go-to guy at FSU if he decides to go that route.

With just two remaining scholarships on the roster, Bill Self must decide if Spears is who he wants to use them on. It could also signify that Chris Johnson or Jamari McDowell will redshirt this season. Considering Jaylon Tyson and Hunter Dickinson are their top two transfer targets, the Jayhawks’ roster will shuffle a great deal in the coming weeks.
