Kansas basketball: How have players fared after transferring from KU?
Quentin Grimes — New York Knicks (NBA)
2022-23 season stats (NBA): 11.3 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 2.1 APG, 46.8% FG
We might not see a case like Grimes again. Nobody thought after he failed his expectations as a five-star recruit during his freshman year that he would become a double-digit scorer in the pros.
The transition he’s made has been incredible. Grimes transferred to Houston after one year with Kansas and was their leading scorer as a junior. His exceptional play carried them to the 2021 Final Four, and if not for Baylor being as dominant as they were, a national championship could have been in store for the Cougars.
Grimes is living proof that you should not give up on a player after one season. He is the prototypical 3-and-D wing in the NBA and started 66 games for the New York Knicks this year. In fact, he and his team just took Game 1 of the Eastern Conference first-round matchup vs. the Cavaliers. The man once considered a Kansas bust could be signing a multi-year NBA contract in a few seasons. Who would have thought?
