College basketball insider Jeff Goodman provided Kansas fans with a sign of hope on Twitter yesterday.

The consensus around the college basketball world is that Kansas basketball’s top priority in the transfer portal is Hunter Dickinson. The transfer from Michigan averaged 18.5 points and 9.0 rebounds last year after earning All-American honors as a sophomore.

Despite all the buzz about Bill Self being interested in landing Dickinson, no official reports had surfaced that this interest had come to fruition — until yesterday afternoon.

When he announced his departure from Michigan, Jayhawk fans pleaded to make him the number one target for next year’s roster. Now, it seems there is a possibility it will come true. At the very least, we know that Kansas wants him badly and is “heavy in pursuit.” Self even announced that he wanted “a big guy to go out and get 20 and 10.” We all know what player he is referring to.

Bill Self and his staff must now play the waiting game with Dickinson. Without a visit to KU scheduled soon, fans should not expect an announcement any time soon. It has been reported that he likes Maryland because of its proximity to Virginia, but the question is whether he prefers closeness to home or playing for the best college basketball coach in the sport.

If you are worried about Kansas not having landed any transfers yet, do not be. Self has been very patient in the past, landing both Remy Martin and Kevin McCullar in the latter stages of the portal. Dickinson does not seem to be in any rush, and neither does KU.

Kansas landing Dickinson would instantly make them a top 5 team in next year’s way-too-early rankings. A player of his caliber alongside Dajuan Harris, KJ Adams, and more would be a scary lineup for opposing teams to face off against. He could commit in a week or a month, so prepare for the unexpected.
