2021 – Ochai Agbaji

Another great story came just a year sooner, and this one may very well be even better than Wilson’s. Agbaji was a bit of an afterthought in KU’s 2018 recruiting class behind Quentin Grimes, Devon Dotson, and David McCormack. He was initially going to redshirt his freshman year until injuries and underwhelming performances forced Coach Self to put Agbaji into action. He responded by putting up nearly nine points and five rebounds a game, while also starting the final 16 games of the season. From then on, he would start every game of his Kansas career, increasing his scoring and efficiency every year. In his final season, he was named an All-American and Big 12 Player of the Year, while leading the Jayhawks to their first National Championship since 2008. From a redshirt freshman to leading his team to a title. It doesn’t get much sweeter than that.
