2005 – Brandon Rush

Looking back on all these teams, I forgot just how important Rush and Chalmers were to the Kansas program. They were the leading scorers in two of their three years and were the second and third leading scorers on the championship team. In 2005, their freshman season, Rush got the better of Chalmers. With how tight of a leash Coach Self has had on his freshmen in recent years, it’s crazy to think about two freshmen being the leading scorers on one of his teams. The top seven scorers on the 2005 team were freshmen and sophomores, and upperclassmen combined to score just 10.2 points per game. Without those two, the Big 12 championship streak likely never even gets going. They deserve to be much higher in KU lore than they are.
