Kansas basketball: Best KU players each season since 2000
By Kyle Jones
2013 – Andrew Wiggins
Had Joel Embiid stayed healthy for the full season, he may have had an argument. Unfortunately for him and every KU fan, he had back issues that forced him to miss the later portion of the regular season and both of the team’s NCAA Tournament games. Regardless, Wiggins was clearly the most talented player on the team and is one of the best pure basketball players in Kansas history, especially as a freshman. While he didn’t quite live up to his “Maple Jordan” moniker, his 17-point, six-rebound averages were still quite impressive. Had Embiid stayed healthy, KU likely wins at least one or two more games in the NCAA Tournament, and this team would get a lot more praise than it does. Still, Wiggins had one of the best freshman seasons in school history.
