One of the nation’s top remaining transfers recently spoke to Bill Self.

A recruit that was once a top target for Kansas basketball might join them through the transfer portal years later. Harrison Ingram, a former McDonald’s All-American and five-star recruit, is in contact with the Jayhawks program.

The forward that has spent his last two seasons as a Stanford Cardinal is now looking for a new home. In 65 career games, he has averaged 10.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.

Ingram‘s talent is deep in him somewhere, but he has not panned out in the Pac-12. He holds alarmingly inefficient shooting percentages — 39.8/31.6/62.9 for his career. His free-throw clip even dipped under 60 percent in 2022-23.

Bill Self would have to do lots of work to construct a Kansas-caliber player in Ingram. If Kevin McCullar goes the NBA route, Ingram could be a sufficient replacement for him. The two are both long forwards with an aptitude for defense and playmaking.

Speaking of playmaking, Ingram is a terrific passer. It is not often that you find a 6’8″ forward with 22 5+ assists games by his sophomore season. Although his offensive skill set might be spotty, he can make up for it by playing minutes as a point forward. Move aside, Dajuan Harris, a new point guard is in town.

Even if Ingram does not seem to have the best chance of committing to Kansas, his experience with the program in the past gives them a half-decent shot. The overwhelming favorite to land him on On3.com is North Carolina, but he is visiting Kansas and Kentucky very soon.

He is one of the more raw talents in the transfer portal. But with two years of eligibility remaining, the sky is the limit regarding what head coach Bill Self can do for him.
