Of the five Kansas basketball players that entered the transfer portal this off-season, Bobby Pettiford is the second to choose his future school. He is heading to East Carolina.

Earlier in the off-season, as many Kansas fans expected, Bobby Pettiford announced he would enter the transfer portal. The Durham, North Carolina native spent the last two years in Lawrence with the Jayhawks. Pettiford averaged 2.2 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game during the 2022-23 season. He also shot 53.4 percent from the field.

Pettiford never got his chance to shine at KU when it was all said and done. Whether it was injuries or just flat-out being out-played by his teammates, he never got the opportunity to find any rhythm in the prestigious basketball town and campus.

The announcement of where he would be transferring to was made public via his Twitter. He is now officially an East Carolina Pirate and will return to his home state.

He seems thrilled to get the opportunity to play in his home state with a fresh start. Pettiford will be a key factor in determining the Pirate’s success, and hopefully, he will become the player that we thought he might bud into at Kansas. Pettiford will fit right in at a mid-major school, potentially producing two successful seasons at ECU.

Bill Self and his coaching staff were all extremely high on Pettiford, even at one point comparing him to KU legend Frank Mason.

He showed what he could do on the basketball court but never did it at a consistent rate. Unfortunately, he could not tap into his potential at KU, but Lawrence, Kansas, along with his former teammates, will send him off with nothing but the best of luck in his future. After all, Pettiford still is a national champion, a feat not many people can acclaim.

Expect Bobby Pettiford to be ECU’s starting point guard in the upcoming season. His Big 12 basketball experience will end up as a positive in the long run, as most guys will not have the experience that he obtained at Kansas.

Next. If Kevin McCullar returns, he can be a Wooden award candidate. dark
