After more than a month of spring practices for Kansas football, the team will wrap up with its annual Spring Showcase tomorrow night.

The Kansas Jayhawks are entering this season with loftier expectations than they’ve had in decades. They reached their first bowl game since Christmas Eve in 2008, eventually losing to the Arkansas Razorbacks in an overtime thriller.

Lance Leipold has taken the program to unparalleled heights during his two seasons at KU. He brought the first-ever College Gameday to the city of Lawrence when the Jayhawks faced TCU. With the Big 12 expanding to 14 schools this season, it will be interesting to see how they handle their new competition.

The Jayhawks’ head coach has had high praise for his team when speaking to the media. He described it as the most intense spring practice that a team he has coached has ever had. That could mean a more physical contest than we are used to seeing for a spring game.

Most of the team is healthy and ready to participate in the festivities. Running back Daniel Hishaw Jr. had been battling an injury all spring but seems poised to ramp up his activity. The event will wrap up the set of fifteen practices the Jayhawks had this spring.

Kansas must build on the momentum they garnered during last season’s incredible run. For them to be deemed one of the premier programs in college football, they will need to maintain this level of play for years to come. It is entirely achievable for the upcoming Kansas football team to surpass last year’s win total and capture a more significant bowl game.

It begins at 7:00 PM CT, and anyone is welcome to enter. Admission to the event is free, so if you are free on Friday night, you should go to David Booth Memorial Stadium and watch a preview of what is to come this year.
