One of the best players in the transfer portal, who has already had on-campus visits with other blue-blood schools, is set to visit Kansas University on Friday.

Nicolas Timberlake is entering his sixth and final season of college basketball, and the veteran guard could commit to 2022’s national champions after spending five years at Towson. His visit is in just two days.

He is one of the most coveted transfers in the portal after having a terrific senior season. Timberlake is a graduate transfer who could transfer to the program immediately, so his impact would be felt instantaneously.

In 2022-23, Timberlake averaged 17.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He did this while maintaining a 45.5%/41.6%/84.5% slash line, leading the Tigers in scoring. That kind of shooting is just what the Jayhawks need at the guard position next to Dajuan Harris.

The transfer can muscle his way to the rim at will, create his shot in isolation, and can do all this with a sweet touch from three. He is arguably the best three-point shooter on the market right now.

Some insiders thought his commitment to North Carolina was imminent, but instead, he kept all his options open. The two schools that faced off in the championship game last year will battle for this tremendous player.

His experience on the floor and fluid jump shoot would be a boon to next year’s Kansas team. The only scholarship player that will also be a senior next season is point guard Dajuan Harris. On a team that will have many inexperienced players, these two could emerge as leaders of the squad.

He would be a massive pickup for Bill Self’s squad in 2023-24. We listed him as the number one target for Kansas in our transfer target tiers list, and that prediction might become a reality. It is apparent that Timberlake wants to make the transition from a smaller school to a blue-blood program before his career ends, so there is no place better to do that than with the Kansas Jayhawks.
