Hunter Dickinson, an All-American center from the University of Michigan, has entered the transfer portal. Could Bill Self be targeting him?

One of KU’s most prominent issues this past season was its lack of a true big man. The Jayhawks seem to have an abundance of faith in incoming sophomore Ernest Udeh Jr., but Dickinson would be an intriguing alternative if he were to play in Lawrence.

FanSided affiliate Busting Brackets recently named Kansas as one of the potential schools he could land at. While there are no insider reports surrounding this yet, it could be a perfect fit.

Dickinson averaged 18.5 points per game in 2022-23 with the Wolverines, grabbing 9.0 rebounds while blocking 1.8 shots. He is one of the most prolific scoring big men in the sport.

It is hard to think of a more perfect Bill Self player. Dickinson is a 7’1″ pure big man who can dominate the low block, consistently collect rebounds, and even shoot well from the foul line. He can be a liability on the defensive end, but that is something that Self can work with.

He will be one of the most coveted transfer targets in the entire portal. Not only has he had a terrific college career, but he also has prior experience in the NCAA Tournament. A veteran big is just what the Jayhawks need to take the next step.

There is nothing wrong with keeping the big man group as it is with KJ Adams and Ernest Udeh Jr. Time and time again, we have seen Kansas players take massive jumps over the course of an off-season. However, with how college basketball has become, it is clear that a veteran presence is required to make a deep tournament run. And Dajuan Harris is the only expected returning scholarship player who is an upperclassman.

Reports have come out saying he has connections with Kentucky, so it is clear Dickinson has no issues transferring to a blue blood school. With his talent and leadership, recruiters should at least skim the surface of the situation to try and lure him to Kansas.
